5K or 10K Trail Run/Walk/Nordic Walk - This exciting event at Lapham Peak State Park in Delafield, Wisconsin will be run from the Evergreen Shelter to the top of the Lapham Peak tower and back down. Bergkönig means, “Mountain King,” in German. For those of you who are not familiar with the park, the course involves numerous hill climbs, technical sections, and flights of stairs. The race should be very challenging for the veteran trail racer, yet fun and exciting for the recreational trail runner.
Once again, this year's race will be held by locally raised elite nordic ski racers, Maria Stuber and Bryan Cook, in conjunction with the Peak Nordic Ski team. Proceeds from the event will go towards training and racing expenses for the 2011-2012 Ski Season.
Maria Stuber is a Waukesha, WI Native, Craftsbury Green Racing Project team member, and 2009 U.S. National Championships Silver medalist.
Bryan Cook is a Rhinelander, WI native who also skis for the Craftsbury Green Racing Project. Bryan is a multiple time U.S. National Championships podium finisher, was 2nd place in the 2009 Birkiebeiner, and has competed on the World Cup. Both athletes will be present at the event to help with timing and greet race participants, as well as answer questions about their training and goals for next season.
“I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am to be a part of this event. Bergkönig is MUCH more than just another running race. Development of cross-country skiing in the United States depends on athlete support at the community level. I have spent countless hours running and ski training on the Lapham Peak trails, and it means the world to me to have this event there. Without the wonderful support that I have received from the Waukesha and Milwaukee communities, I would not be able to continue pursuing my Olympic dreams. Thank you all very, very much!” – Maria Stuber
“Support from the Southern Wisconsin endurance sport community is the reason that so many great runners, bikers, and skiers come out of this area. I always look forward to spending time in Milwaukee. The Bergkönig Trail Run is a wonderful opportunity for us to give back and utilize our passion for competing in a different way. Be sure to bring your friends and family out this year!” – Bryan Cook
